Deira Covered Souk, A Place For Shoppers

Bur Nubai is a city that is located in the south of Dubai and Deira is a city found in the north of Dubai. The Khor Dubai or Dubai Creek flows between these two cities.
If you are looking for traditional Arabic features like souqs, you will not be disappointed as these can be found in both towns. However, Deira is considered the center of the old city. In comparison, Bur Nubai is more moderns and proudly features high rises and other infrastructures.
“Souq” or “Souk” are two Arabic words that refer to a traditional market or bazaar. Most souks can be found on the side of Deira. An example is the Deira covered Souk. Water taxis are available to take you from Bur Duba to Deira. The trip takes about 10 minutes and allows you to bask in the glory of traditional wooden boats that are similar to those where ancient travelers traveled.
The Deira Covered Souk is located within the Al Sabkha Bus Station. If you are searching for a great bargain then you will have a great time shopping in souks. Not only is it a wonderful shopping experience but a cultural one as well.
The Deira Covered Souks is similar to a department store or general merchandise store and enables shoppers to find a variety of consumer items that are for sale. The most common item found and purchased are clothing and textiles. Many tourists love the ambience of the Deira Covered Souk which is more Indian than Arabic.
Many of them love purchasing spices and henna as well as the Spice Souk or Deira Old Souk. Since souks are open air bazaars, you will not find air conditioned units like you will in shopping malls. However, you will find “hot bargains” and other goodies.
If it is your first time shopping in the Deira Covered Sourk or other areas, you will basically spend your time looking for items, asking the merchant for assistance and then negotiating for a price. Our advice is to always bargain. To do so successfully, you should ask the price, wait, look surprised or disappointed and then ask for a better price.
You’ll soon find that you will get a great price. Just keep practicing and enjoy the thrill because there is nothing better than bargaining at the Deira Covered Souk and getting a wonderful item for the best price.
