How To Choose The Best Cat Training Supplies

Finding the supplies you need to train your cat doesn’t have to be difficult or expensive. However, you do need to find the most effective supplies to use. It’s really not that complicated of a decision. You just have to think about what the behaviors your cat is exhibiting that you’d like to change.

Here are the most essential supplies you’ll need to train your cat:

1. Litter Box

This is the most important piece of equipment in training a cat and is usually the first thing a cat owner will get when they adopt a new cat. When you are looking at litter boxes, think about the size of the box and the height of its sides. You cat should be able to easily get in and out of the box, so keep the size of your cat in mind. The sides should be high enough that you cat will not kick anything out of the litter box when scratching.

2. A Scratching Post

Cats need to scratch to prevent their claws from growing too long. They scratch walls, furniture, anywhere if left unchecked. A good scratching post is a must – the owner can buy a post or create their own in order to prevent the cat from scratching the furniture.

If you are making your own scratching post, you should build one which is sturdy enough not to tip over when the cat uses it. You can cover this post with a mat or a piece of carpet; make sure not to use the same kind of fabric as used in your furniture – your cat will learn to scratch these as well.

3. Bed for the Cat

If you are planning to train your cat not to sleep on your bed, then they will need one of their own. The cat owner or trainer can make a bed for the cat which is made of a soft pillow which the cat will enjoy sleeping on. Cat’s like warm places to sleep, so make sure that the pillow is warm and comfortable; you can also have the bed scented to add to its appeal.

4. Yarn or Balls as Toys

If you want to teach your cat tricks, then you’ll want some balls and yarn. Cats are especially fond of light objects which move. There are of course many toys made specifically for cats, but small balls and yarn are favored over commercially produced cat toys by most cats.
