Learning to speak Spanish can be a real challenge. It's a beautiful, but complicated language. It is also an excellent choice for a second language since Spanish is spoken by approximately 380 million people on this planet. That means that about 6% of the world's population speaks Spanish.
That is a very large percentage when you consider how many languages exist.

There are a large variety of Spanish teaching courses available. How can you be sure which ones are effective, and which ones are a waste of your time? We put up this site in an effort to share our experience with anybody that is wanting to learn to speak Spanish.

The Rocket Spanish Website

The program I have reviewed is Rocket Spanish™ which is produced by Rocket Language Ltd. The instructor in the course is a man named Mauricio Evlampieff, who is a native Spanish speaker.

The course contains modules that will take you along your journey of learning a new language. The first module contains 31 audio tracks that will have you speaking some basic words after your first lesson. The course instructs conversational Spanish which means you will be able to have basic conversations right away.

The package includes the actual transcripts of the audios and I found that particularly helpful in following along. Each audio is about 20 minutes long which means the full module is about 12 hours of content.

The methods used within this first module will allow you to absorb and speak Spanish quickly. Twelve hours seems like a lot I know, but the way the course is set up into fun games and exercises, the time flies, and you will stay excited about it because you are learning quickly.

One of the software applications included is what they call MegaVocab™. This is a vocabulary recognition tool. I found this very helpful throughout the program.

You basically run through a series of words and you learn the words through repetition, and an association with a picture. It's sort of like the flashcards you used to learn with when you were a kid.

The software has 1000 words and pictures built into it, but it also allows you to add more words and pictures of your choice as you continue to learn.

Once I started to learn the vocabulary I went on to the MegaAudio™ software. This phase of the course is where I started to gain confidence with all I had learned.

I loved having the ability to hear the words pronounced, and then being able to repeat them back. It was very reassuring that I was developing the proper pronunciation. I didn't develop any bad habits because I was learning the proper way to speak the language from the start of my lessons.

The software provides exercises that test and improve your recognition of the spoken words. The system provides a score with each exercise so you always have a unit of measure for your progress.

I found this software to be a lot of fun to use. It is one thing to learn the vocabulary, but to understand it when spoken is another. In my opinion this is where other programs fall short, and where Rocket Spanish exceeds the instruction of the other courses.

Another very cool aspect of the Rocket Spanish™ program was that is isn't just an introductory course. The course is designed with the assumption that the student has no background in the language when starting. But it continues to an advanced level as well. I felt like this increased the value of the program because I wouldn't have to go out and buy a more advanced course as I progressed.

Possibly the most impressive part of this course is the members only forum where you can ask questions and communicate with other students and the Rocket Language online instructors. To me, this forum made the cost of this course a real bargain. If you happen to get stuck on something, you find lots of help in the forum.

My closing comment involves the pricing of this course. It is priced at one hundred dollars which means it is still priced lower than most of the other courses on the market. The course is downloaded from the Rocket Language website and I loved that aspect of this course. It saved me a lot of money, but it also allowed me to get started right away. I was then able to listen on my computer, burn the material to a CD, and even load audio on my ipod. They do offer an option for having the course shipped to you on CD's. This option comes at a higher price of course.
